Mardis Gras Fishing Guide

Fishing and Mardi Gras

While most of the country goes into survival mode during the late winter season, Southeast Louisiana is bustling with action! Football season has ended, for most hunting season has come to a close, and the “dog days” of winter are now looming over most of the country while everyone dreams of warmer days. Between an incredible winter inshore fishing bite, and Mardi Gras in full swing in the city, February is one of the most exciting times to be in New Orleans. This month we will see an absolute abundance of large schools of hefty redfish push deep into the marsh. The colder water temperatures will have these redfish bighting later in the day as opposed to the early before daylight runs we make during the summer. While we do experience a winter here in Southeast Louisiana, the mild nature of our winter makes our inshore fishing truly a year round operation. Just to add a little cherry on top, winter reds here in Delacroix are usually just a short ride away from our lodge, meaning less time riding and more time fishing!

There is more to this special time of year besides just the excellent fishing however. Almost daily through the month of February there are tons of exciting events centered around Mardi Gras in New Orleans. With our facility being less than an hour from the city, this is the perfect time to combine some of the best inland fishing the gulf has to offer, with an unforgettable authentic Mardi Gras experience. All through February, parades take to the city and live music pours onto the street everywhere in New Orleans. Whether it be watching a parade under the beautiful oaks uptown, listening to endless live music in Mid City’s local bars, or joining a second line parade downtown, each and every day is something special!
