DELACROIX, La. – The rod more than doubled and the reel’s drag screamed but the braided line held its own as the first fish of the day showed its mettle all the way to the net. Others quickly followed until ice chests approached capacity, filled with groceries the marsh seemed more than willing to provide.
“They’re always in this area,” Nicholas Rando, owner of Fishaholic Fishing Charters, said of the red drum, generally just called redfish by its fans. “They may move eight miles this way or six miles that way depending on the wind, the tide, the water’s temperature and its salt content, but they’re always here.”
